I want to share a scripture and then have a little talk about it
1 John 2:6 (NKJV)
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
Do you realise what this verse is saying?
It is saying if you think you are a disciple of Jesus, a servant of Jesus, or a son ( or whatever you call yourself) that you need to walk and talk just like Jesus did in this earth.
Do you know that everything that Jesus did and said was inspired by the Holy Spirit? Every thing that he said in conversations, every action that he made, every single thing that he did was directed by God.
Jesus didn’t go about gossiping. Jesus didn’t have one foot in the world with its lusts and one foot with God. Jesus didn’t spend money on things that had no eternal value. Jesus didn’t sin.
Jesus was radically full of love and compassion. He had no thought for his flesh. He had no thought for himself. Even in the garden when he was about to be crucified he went to seek his Father to see if he really had to do his Father’s will.
It’s not enough for us to live a carnal Christian life. It’s not good enough to be half committed to God, or to be as committed as we feel.
John is quite clear here. He says if we say we abide in Jesus then we need to act just like him.
Comment if this causes you to pause. Does this leave room for you to grow?
